Placement: County of Santa Clara Custody Health Services Department - Juvenile Justice Involved Youth
Educational Institution: Santa Clara University
During this summer, I had the opportunity to make meaningful contributions through my involvement with the Juvenile Custody Health Services Department. I honed a diverse set of skills including research, qualitative data collection, health education, and program improvement. My primary project focused on facilitating medical transitions of care for justice involved youth. I created educational material that was used to inform staff in the facility of best practices in supporting youth.
The Fellows Program allowed me to grow professionally in a unique government setting, offering insights into the complex yet rewarding nature of County work. Beyond enhancing my professional development, this role enabled me to forge connections with the community. The most rewarding part of my summer was collaborating with youth to help guide content creation for an opioid use/misuse grant project. The Fellows Program equipped me with invaluable professional experience, as well as the inspiration that will undoubtedly shape my future career endeavors.
